About This Production

Amathambo is a poetic theatre production that tells the story of Thulari Masombuka, a former Ndebele warrior burdened with a generational curse, and his son Tholile, who seeks to break it through guidance from his father’s spirit so he embarks on a spiritual journey to break the curse, guided by his father’s spirit. The play unfolds in eMalahleni. The production explores themes of family history, tradition, and spiritual healing. With a minimal aesthetic, Amathambo fuses poetic text and visual storytelling.
